Day 1: Arusha – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast at your Arusha hotel, you’ll drive approximately 2 hours to Londorossi Gate (2,100m) for registration with park authorities. From here, a 30-minute off-road drive takes you to the Lemosho starting point. Trek through rich montane forest, home to black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and the occasional elephant sighting, to reach your first campsite, Mti Mkubwa (2,820m). Enjoy dinner under the forest canopy.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp

Ascend steadily through forest and emerge onto the Shira Plateau. Today’s trek offers your first dramatic views of Kibo Peak. Trek through moorland, observing unique flora like giant groundsels and lobelias. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,500m), nestled on the plateau’s edge, in time for lunch and a relaxed afternoon.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Enjoy a relatively easy day across the expansive Shira Plateau. You’ll gain little elevation, making this an excellent day for acclimatization. Along the way, marvel at the views of Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and the valley below. Optional short hikes on the Lent Hills add acclimatization opportunities.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Today you climb high and sleep low, a golden rule of acclimatization. Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m), where you’ll rest and enjoy lunch before descending to the scenic Barranco Camp (3,950m). The dramatic Barranco Wall looms ahead, your challenge for tomorrow.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Begin your day with a fun scramble up the Barranco Wall, offering panoramic views and a sense of accomplishment. Traverse ridgelines and valleys to reach the Karanga Valley, your overnight stop. This shorter trekking day aids in recovery and helps with acclimatization.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

After breakfast, trek steadily uphill through alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,673m). The afternoon is dedicated to resting, hydrating, and preparing for your midnight summit bid. Early dinner is served before heading to bed by 7:00 PM.

Day 7: Barafu – Summit (Uhuru Peak) – Mweka Camp

Around midnight, begin your push to the summit. Trek in the dark across switchbacks of scree to reach Stella Point (5,739m) just in time for sunrise. A final hour leads to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the Roof of Africa! After photos and celebration, descend carefully to Barafu for brunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.

Trekking Time: 12–15 hours

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Arusha

After breakfast, descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you’ll receive your certificate of achievement. A vehicle awaits to transfer you back to Arusha for a hot shower, celebratory meal, and rest.
