Your day begins with a morning pick-up from either Arusha or Moshi and a scenic three-hour drive to Marangu Village, located on the verdant slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival, begin your adventure with a short stop at Marangu Gate, the main entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park. Learn about the history of the mountain and climbing routes as you take in views of the iconic peak.
Next, head to a local farm to explore the agricultural life of the Chagga people. Engage in a hands-on coffee experience, from bean picking and roasting to hand-grinding and tasting. You’ll also learn about banana cultivation and see over 100 species of banana plants grown in the fertile volcanic soils.
Continue with a short hike to the stunning Ndoro Waterfalls. The trail is relatively easy and takes about 30 minutes through lush forest and hillsides. The falls are a refreshing and peaceful reward, perfect for a short rest and photo opportunity.
After lunch, visit the Chagga Live Museum where you’ll gain insight into traditional life, tools, and customs. Explore reconstructed traditional homes and see a collection of cultural artifacts, followed by a tour of the underground tunnels once used as hiding places during tribal conflicts.
If weather permits, we’ll stop by a scenic viewpoint for sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Wrap up the day with a taste of local life, enjoy the gardens and celebrate with a drink of “mbege,” the traditional banana-based brew served in local Chagga bars.
In the evening, return to Moshi town, check in to your lodge or hotel, and enjoy dinner and a well-deserved rest.
