The Hidden Natural Wonderland

Located just a short drive from Arusha town, Arusha National Park is a small but incredibly diverse safari destination, offering a mix of lush forests, open savannas, and stunning lakes. Unlike other national parks in Tanzania, Arusha National Park is unique in its scenic variety, making it perfect for visitors looking for a quick but enriching wildlife experience. The park is home to Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak, which provides an excellent trekking alternative to Kilimanjaro.

One of the park’s highlights is the Ngurdoto Crater, often referred to as a mini-Ngorongoro, with its lush greenery and abundant wildlife, including buffalo, warthogs, and monkeys. The Momella Lakes, a series of alkaline lakes, attract thousands of flamingos and other water birds, creating a stunning pink spectacle against the backdrop of Mount Meru. Unlike other parks in the northern circuit, Arusha National Park does not have large predators like lions, making it an ideal destination for walking safaris, where visitors can explore the landscape up close with an armed ranger.

Arusha National Park is an excellent choice for day trips or as a prelude to a longer safari in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro. It is accessible year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season from June to October when animals are easier to spot, and hiking trails are less muddy. Whether you’re interested in wildlife, trekking, or breathtaking scenery, Arusha National Park offers a perfect introduction to Tanzania’s natural beauty.
